No, Baldur’s Gate 3 does not have a new PS5 release date

New release date for Baldur's Gate 3 PS5

For some crazy reason, the official PlayStation mobile app has started sending out notifications to users about a “new launch date” for Baldur’s Gate 3. We got the message ourselves and ran to the PlayStation Store to check what was going on – and nothing has changed. At least not yet!

The RPG, which released on PC a few days ago, will still launch for PS5 on September 6 (while early access to the Digital Deluxe Edition starts 72 hours earlier, on September 3). With that in mind, we have no idea why the PlayStation app has decided to cause such chaos. We guess more casual users might not know it’s coming out next month, but calling it a “new” date seems a bit redundant.

Anyway, that’s about it for this incredibly dramatic story. Let us know if you have been panicked by this misleading message in the comment section below.

Robert has been a devoted PlayStation fan since the days of Tekken 2, and he still loves to dust himself off. When he’s not practicing combos, he’s usually lost in the latest 100-hour RPG, or, you know, replaying The Witcher 3.

Some “push” on for this game huh.

Would this “new” date relate to early access with the digital deluxe version?

Calm down with the BG3 items, I’ve been looking forward to it for ages but the hype is a bit OTT now, almost putting me off from day one!

However, I wouldn’t mind generally spoiler-free “What I wish I knew from the start after 100 hours” type articles and some hints about a starter character closer to release.

I think you meant September 3rd, not August.

August 3rd early access, really?😂 doesn’t seem to be the only ps app having issues with dates.

I got an email about it too, but still on September 6th

Sony also sent an email a little earlier with “new launch date” right in the title, very confusing.

@kyleforrester87 That people hosting a game put you off? Why? Other people who like the game are not good?

@VanguardKaiser Thought about it but it seems like it’s just them making sure as many people as possible know what the release date is. As the comments above have said, Sony sent out an email with the same information, so I think the “new” is either a mistake – maybe this promotion was put together a while ago and was delayed – or a cheeky way to get people to look (probably the former).

Think it’s bad here PCGamer has literally dozens of BG3 articles although there is a fun one today where the writer breaks the game by respecting the party of 4 rangers who call their bears and just let the bears wander around as a party.

Quite entertaining.

Wondering if Larian has finally confirmed the date and now it’s locked in the SKU.

Who knows, I got an email and a push notification from the PS app and I was worried that the date had slipped.

@deathaxe same here. I turned on the PS5 to check my pre-order timer and it’s still the same.

It’s September 2nd for the Digital Deluxe Edition so it’s in the ps store & on my pre-order. 3 days early access!!

I still need to play the Divinity games in my backlog before I consider buying this. Sounds good though.

Who would have thought that Xbox’s lack of foresight regarding the Series S would lead to Playstation actually having a monster “exclusive” rpg in BG3 to compete for your free time against Starfield

@kyleforrester87 It seems odd to be surprised that Push Square is diligently covering one of the year’s most successful gaming-friendly releases so far.

I mean it’s only weeks until its PS5 release. Seems like the usual time to hype something up, especially with it being almost universally applauded via its PC release and very little at all coming from the first party front or Sony in general for most of the year now.

To be honest if people think there is too much hype about BG3 on the opposite side with less than a month left for Starfield there is practically nothing.

Not sure if Bethesda thinks there’s no point in marketing but to me that’s a huge red flag, it’s almost like they won’t make a promise they can’t keep.

Anyway love BG3 and even impressed with a day 1 hotfix with 150 bugs.

No other company can claim that you can’t release a game in a working state.
